How to get there:

ARRIVING BY AIR

 

The best "local" airport is Porto. Intercontinental flights use Lisbon.

 

Flight information can change rapidly. Please do check for yourself directly with the airlines' websites before finalising any booking with us and do not book your flights until we have confirmed that we have provisionally reserved accommodation for you.

 

Land by: 12:00 for public transport connections to Soajo. Later arrivals possible but connections/journey time may mean missing supper.

Return flight earliest: 11:00 for connections from Santa Mario do Bouro

Land by/earliest return flight times not applicable if using a pre-booked taxi

ARRIVING BY TRAIN

 

Nearest railway station:

Start: Braga

Finish: Braga


Sample rail journey from UK via Paris:

London: Eurostar to Paris (N), metro to Paris (Mp) for  TGV to Irun. Night train to Coimbra-B, for Intercity to Porto, local train to Braga. ~25½ hrs.

 

Braga: Train to Porto & Intercity to Coimbra-B for night train to Hendaye. Take TGV to Paris (Mp) and transfer to Paris (N) by metro for Eurostar to LondonSt Pancras International. ~26½ hrs. 

Getting to the start of the walk:

The first hotel is in the village of Soajo and the last walking hotel is near Amares. Best airport is Porto and transfer times and methods are suggested for Porto airport below. For train arrival transfers see below.

 

PORTO AIRPORT:

Outward: Various combinations of public transport with taxi options possible (2-4 hrs) OR pre-bookable taxi transfer from Porto airport to the first hotel (c. 2 hrs) 
Return: Local taxi to Braga then train to Porto (2 hrs), either metro to airport (c.30 mins) or local taxi to Foz do Douro extra nights hotel (45 mins) OR pre-bookable taxi transfer from the final hotel on the walk to Porto airport (1½ hrs) OR pre-bookable taxi transfer from final hotel on the walk to Porto hotel (2 hrs)

 

Transfers from Braga train station:

Outward: Bus to Arcos de Valdevez and local taxi to Soajo, or local taxi all the way to Soajo

Return: Local taxi or bus then taxi.
