ARRIVING BY AIR

 

The best airport is Girona (also known as Gerona), though intercontinental flights use Barcelona. Flight information can change rapidly, and not all flights run daily. Please do check for yourself with the arilines' websites before finalising any booking with us and do not book your flights until we have provisionally reserved accommodation for you. 

 

Land by: Girona 18:00; Barcelona 15:00 for public bus connections to Besalu (1½ / 3 hrs)

Return flight earliest: Girona 13:00; Barcelona 16:00 for public bus connections from Olot (2½ / 4 hrs). Land by/earliest return flight times not applicable if using pre-booked taxi (Girona only -  Barcelona impracticable)

ARRIVING BY TRAIN 

Nearest railway station:

Start and finish:  Girona 

 

Typical rail journey from UK via Paris and Figueres:

London: Eurostar to Paris (N), transfer to Paris Lyon for TGV to Figueres then change on to 'Alvia' train to Girona.  ~10.5 hrs. Look at www.seat61.com/Spain.htm , and follow the London to Barcelona link for details and tips! 

Girona: As above in reverse. ~10.5 hrs.

Sleeper train (via Gare d'Austerlitz in Paris) also possible - you might like to consider this for your return journey to allow some time to look around Girona and a good meal out!

Getting to the start of the walk:

The first hotel is in Besalu and the last in La Pinya, near Olot. Transfer times and methods are suggested for Girona (Gerona) and Barcelona airports below. For train arrival transfers see below.

 

GIRONA AIRPORT:

Outward: 2 buses, 1½ hrs OR Pre-booked taxi transfer from Girona airport to Besalu c. 1hr  

Return: 2 buses, 2½ hrs OR Pre-booked taxi transfer from Olot to Girona airport c. 1.5 hrs or from Besalu to Girona airport c. 1hr

 

BARCELONA AIRPORT:

Outward: 2 buses 3 hrs - taxi not recommended

Return: 2 buses 4 hrs - taxi not recommended

 

Transfers from Girona Train Station:

Outward: Several daily buses from outside train station to Besalu OR Pre-booked taxi transfer direct to hotel.

Return: Several daily buses from Olot (short local taxi ride from hotel) to Girona train station OR Pre-booked taxi transfer direct from hotel to station.
